Fred and Marion approached us to upgrade their quaint little cabin and add on a master suite.
I took this picture summer of 2001 and included it in our response to a national request for qualifications to design the visitor center in Moose, Wyoming (the south entrance to Grand Teton National Park). We teamed with Jones Studio also in Arizona. Fond memory.
Along with a world of other architects, I was invited to participate in the international design thinking of “what next” after the devastation in New York.
Our home, within the setting of the Arizona Sonoran Desert, has been a primary place for our Danish friends to pause during their lifetime of United States travel vacations.
Gated community design guidelines are mostly about the exterior appearances of buildings from the view of the greater community. Guidelines are intended to help maintain neighborhood values (dollars not necessarily standards). Though respecting neighbors remains important, higher in the priority of design concerns (in my opinion after many years leading various design review committees) are the opportunities within the home interiors and within the enclosed private yards...HAPPY HOME within the private domain leads to HAPPY NEIGHBORHOOD.

Having been raised in the Town of Paradise Valley, views to Camelback Mountain have been a part of daily enjoyment most of my life.
