Gordy's brim
Short Story...we celebrated the life of architect Gordy Rogers last night at the University Club near Central Avenue in Phoenix. A lot of nice stories were shared from his family and friends. Though I never told Gordy, this image of me(summer 2011) is on my LinkedIn page, due to Gordy.
Years ago, Gordy was being recognized at a Phoenix Home and Garden dinner, and he was invited to talk about his architecture. I recall Gordy's first image was of him wearing a large hat that was shading his entire head. He was making a point about managing sun and refering to the brim of his hat as inspiration for the home he was discussing. Maybe it was the content in his message, maybe it was his ease in communicating with an audience, or maybe it was because he was also memerable in discussion one-on-one, for whatever reason, I never forgot his message.
So when I was first joining LinkedIn, I was prompted to upload an image of myself. At the time, I was also revising my website. After carrousing my family files, I ran across this image. Boldly, I uploaded myself, my hat, my sunglasses, and my subliminal message about design, context, and environment. Though people wearing sunglasses on LinkedIn are rare, I have yet to make a change.
I am sure an update is due, so when I do, HATS OFF TO GORDAN P. ROGERS.
The long story? In architect circles (including related clients and contractors) he will be remembered as most excellent.
