Lisa's bench
Invited to design a bench during a local American Institute of Architects design competition, I corralled an air conditioning system duct maker/sheet metal worker extroirdinair(Wayne Jacowski), my neighbor cabinet maker(Jerry Bump), and a wood furniture craftsman(Harry Westover) to help construct my bench design. On exhibition in the Burton Barr Library on Central in Phoenix, we were recognized as second place winners. The simple curved shape allowed opportunities to socialize(sitting on the inside of the curve) or to be more solo(sitting on the outside of the curve). The wood and metal were selected to gray and rust with age. Lisa purchased the bench during a fundraising auction, and it resides by her pool today(aging as planned and always comfortable).
