Pam and Dave's property was purchased for short vacations from Phoenix to the base of the ponderosa tree packed Mogollon Rim near the village of Christopher Creek.
They asked, "what if we replaced the existing little cabin?"
We proposed a larger home integrated into the site and modernized for efficient get-a-ways.
Spaces are arranged linearly along the north cliff edge of a natural ravine that stretched eastwest across the property.
The narrow layout encourages cross ventilation and natural daylight into each space.
The assembly of materials includes Arizona Forest salvaged trees, locally milled Ponderosa planks, and indigenous Malapi stone.
A series of shed roofs, expansive overhangs, exposed structure and structural connections, and floor to ceiling glass are inspired by architect Peter Bohlin's “Ledge House”.
